The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment (MCEE, Minister Kim Sungwhan) announced that Minister Kim Sungwhan will meet with Le Manh Hung, Vietnam’s Minister of Industry and Trade, at the Government Complex Seoul in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the morning of August 27 to discuss specific implementation measures for Korea-Vietnam energy cooperation as a follow-up to the leaders’ diplomacy in April this year.

Recently, Vietnam has been pursuing the expansion of power generation facilities and transmission and distribution networks, the increased deployment of renewable energy, and nuclear power development to meet rising electricity demand driven by rapid economic growth and industrialization. 

Accordingly, the importance of expanding power infrastructure to ensure a stable electricity supply and support the energy transition is also growing.

During the meeting, Minister Kim will explore opportunities for joint projects in power infrastructure based on Korea’s accumulated experience in developing and operating power grids, and discuss ways to expand exchanges in renewable energy policies, systems, and industry. 

The two sides will also explore areas for cooperation across the entire nuclear power lifecycle, including nuclear power plant development and operation and workforce training.

In addition, the MCEE plans to ask the Vietnamese government to continue providing attention and support to ensure the smooth implementation of projects by Korean companies operating in Vietnam.

Minister Kim Sungwhan said, “Vietnam is a comprehensive strategic partner of Korea and a key energy cooperation partner in the ASEAN region.” He added, “Building on the foundation established through the leaders’ diplomacy in April, we will deliver tangible results and contribute to the successful energy transition and stable electricity supply of both countries.”
